Hydrocarbon under control: a soil remediation project in two phases.

As part of a project to decontaminate polluted sites and soils in progress on a site formerly occupied by a car garage and a service station with hydrocarbon pollution, our teams are hard at work!
The objective of this initiative is to prepare the ground for conversion into an R+3 building. To carry out this operation, the Colas Environnement teams were commissioned by Kaufman & Broad to implement several pollution control techniques: venting, pumping and skimming system as well as earthworks under a ventilated tent.
To carry out this project, a 1,000 m² lending containment tent was set up above the contaminated area. This tailor-made structure allowed the excavation of polluted land safely by ensuring sufficient air renewal thanks to a ventilation unit including an 8m3 turbine and active carbon filter. In parallel with this earthworks phase, 6 skimming structures were installed. They made it possible to recover the pure phase with a thickness of about 4 centimeters.
While the first phase of the project was successfully completed on time, the second phase has now begun. A technique for treating soil gases by venting was set up by means of 7 wells installed at the bottom of the excavation. These were installed under the slab of the future building in an invisible manner, thus allowing construction work to be continued without interruption.
