Description
Colas Environnement was commissioned to treat water contaminated with fire-extinguishing foam in Bourg-en-Bresse. This intervention was carried out urgently following an industrial accident. The company deployed a mobile treatment unit to prevent any overflow or non-compliant discharge into the natural environment. The characterization of the waters was carried out, specifically targeting the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) present.
Operation and characteristics
The treatment of water contaminated with PFAS began with a series of samples to analyze the chemical composition of the water in the basin. These analyses made it possible to specifically identify the types of PFAS present and their concentration. On this basis, Colas Environnement has chosen a suitable filtration method. The process uses a dedicated filter media that is designed to effectively capture PFAS molecules. Thanks to this approach, the mobile treatment unit was able to manage large flows, up to several hundred cubic meters in total, while complying with regulatory discharge standards.
Apps
Colas Environnement's mobile processing units are intended to be used in contexts where a rapid and flexible response is required. They are particularly suitable for industrial sites requiring temporary treatment of water contaminated with PFAS and other pollutants, especially after accidents involving chemical products. This solution can be applied in various industries where the management of wastewater containing PFAS is a major environmental challenge.
