Depollution of an industrial wasteland in an urban area

On a site with a heavy industrial past, due to the production of batteries, COHV pollution has permeated the soil (TCE, DCE, cisDCE) and groundwater causing potential health risks for residents living near the residents throughout a residential neighborhood.
Colas Environnement has therefore been mobilized since January 2025 to carry out a series of pilot tests aimed at determining which rehabilitation techniques are most suitable for this complex project. Pilot tests conducted in partnership with specialized design offices include key steps such as on-site and off-site skim pumping tests including sequencing phases, soil flushing, degradation experiments (ISCO, ISCR, Biodegradation), venting tests as well as multi-phase extraction tests.
The location of the construction site, in the middle of a residential area, does not make things easy. Communication with local residents and the media is also perfectly ensured by the MOA and stakeholders to keep them informed in a spirit of transparency.
Once the tests are complete, they will make it possible to define the most effective pollution control strategy, combining technical performance, respect for local residents and future enhancement of the site.
The system, active from January 2024 to November 2025, guarantees the sustainable security of the site.
